2014 United States Baseball Hall of Fame Silver Coin

Notable Differences

  1. The lettering on the reverse of the coin is incuse on the genuine coin but raised on the counterfeit coin.
  2. The field on the reverse of the genuine coin has a burnished or matte finish on both the proof and uncirculated versions.  The counterfeit coin has a proof-like field finish.

Discussion & Detection

The biggest difference between the genuine and counterfeit coins is not evident in the comparison graphic.  The genuine coin is curved to compliment the baseball design.  The counterfeit coin is flat.  This makes the counterfeit coin very easy to identify.  The counterfeit coin is also magnetic.  Note: the genuine coin was photographed through a capsule.
