LUZERNE COUNTY, PA - A Luzerne man accused of peddling fake gold and silver bars and coins on Craigslist was hiding hundreds of dollars in cash in his rectum when booked in jail, according to police.

 

David E. Steele, 42, of 484 Charles St., is charged with two felony counts of theft by deception, a felony charge of illegally possessing a controlled substance and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and possessing drug paraphernalia.

According to a police affidavit filed in court, brothers Johnathan Luckenbaugh and Justin Luckenbaugh contacted investigators about 9 p.m. Friday to report the fraudulent transactions.

The pair told police they had paid Steele $12,655 for multiple 10-ounce silver bars, 1-ounce silver coins, 1-ounce silver bars and a 1-ounce gold bar between January and April 11.
