ROSEMONT, IL - Doug Davis, founder of the Numismatic Crime Information Center and a former Police Chief of the Dallas suburb of Pantego, Texas, has been selected by the nonprofit Anti-Counterfeiting Educational Foundation to be its next Director of Anti-Counterfeiting.

Pending the development of additional safeguards for its Mutilated Coin Redemption Program, the U.S. Mint has again temporarily suspended the processing of applications and submissions of material, Mint officials announced May 9.

BURNSVILLE, MN - Barry Ron Skog, 68, of Burnsville, Minnesota, pleaded guilty February 21 to one count of selling counterfeit coins and one count of mail fraud in the United States District Court of Minnesota in St. Paul.

ANACS authenticator and Coin World columnist Michael Fahey warns that nearly all U.S. coin series are at risk of being counterfeited in China, counterfeits that are then shipped en masse to the U.S.

A US man has been awarded a patent on a way to tell if a coin is counterfeit, simply by looking at the pattern of damage though wear and tear.

The patent – awarded to IP attorney Christopher Rourk of Dallas lawfirm Jackson Walker LLP, covers the use of surface and edge imaging data that could be automated to provide a rapid means of detecting fake coins, particularly those that are purported to be ancient.
